faculty mentoring program offered
The Clinical and Administrative Division at the College of Pharmacy started a new faculty mentoring program in the Spring of 2007. Leading the mentoring program was Barry Carter ('78 BSPh, PharmD), professor, who conducted several discussions on navigating an academic career. The goals of this program were to:
1. Identify factors involved in faculty stress and problems with time management.
2. Review the research regarding some factors that relate to faculty morale and discontent.
3. Discuss the expectations for a faculty member that will lead to a successful academic career.
4. Relate IRSS theory to faculty success (involvement, regimen, self-control, and social networking) and provide examples that the faculty member can incorporate into their daily routine.
5. Provide useful strategies for a successful academic career.
6. Identify strategies to develop effective research teams.
7. Provide initial discussions on developing successful research proposals.
