Mary
Baumann recently joined the College of
Pharmacy, Professional Experience Program as a Program
Assistant. Mary has a BA in Art (Graphic Design)
and a MSEd in College Student Personnel. She most
recently worked as the Dean of Students at Saint
Mary’s University of Minnesota. She and her
family moved to the Cedar Rapids area when her husband
accepted a job at Rockwell Collins. They have
an 11 month old son, Jack, who was born on Christmas
Day. They also have a wheaten terrier named Milo.
In her spare time she enjoys long walks, reading
and playing with her son. |

Amy
Becker is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
at UIHC and a Assistant Professor (Clinical) in
the Clinical and Administrative Division. Amy is
a native of Dubuque, and received her BS in Pharmacy
from the University of Iowa in 1974. She worked
in a hospital pharmacy in the Quad Cities for 9
years, then returned to the University for a PharmD.
At the time there were only 6 students in the program!
Amy went on to complete a one-year residency in
advanced clinical pharmacy at Ohio State, then worked
at a teaching hospital in Vermont for 6 years.
She returned to Iowa in 1993 as a Clinical Pharmacy
Specialist in Hematology-Oncology, and became a
Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist in 2003. Her
professional interests focus on the management of
symptoms of disease and the side effects of treatment.
Other interests include cooking, reading, and travel.

Betsy
Beltz is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
in the UIHC and a Assistant Professor (Clinical)
)in the Clinical and Administrative Division located
at UIHC. Betsy earned her BS in 1983 and her PharmD
in 1984 from Purdue University and then completed
a pharmacy residency at the UI in 1985. In 1991,
Beltz became the clinical pharmacy specialist for
the pulmonary division and the MICU. In this role,
Beltz rounds with the medical team, monitors drug
therapy, responses to therapy and adverse events,
and serves as a resource for nurses and other pharmacists
in critical care. With this position, Beltz “inherited”
the responsibility of precepting pharmacy students,
and there she has found another passion. Betsy truly
enjoys working with students who want to learn and
almost always has at least one student rotating
with her. |

Jennifer
Fiegel,
PhD, joined the University
of Iowa as an assistant professor with a joint appointment
in the Division of Pharmaceutics and the Department
of Chemical & Biochemical Engineering in August.
Dr. Fiegel received her Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular
Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 2003. Prior to
joining the faculty she was a postdoctoral fellow
at Harvard University in the Division of Engineering
and Applied Sciences.
Dr. Fiegel moved to Iowa City with her husband Brian
and their son Elijah. When not engaged in
science, she enjoys camping, photography and making
wine. |

Kristin
Horning joined the College of Pharmacy
on September 11th as a assistant professor (clinical)
at Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines.

Sarah
Johnson graduated from the University of
Iowa in 1995 with her bachelor of science degree
and in 1997 with her doctor of pharmacy degree.
She then completed a pharmacy practice residency
at the University of Iowa and worked in Solid Organ
Transplantation. She is currently a Clinical Pharmacy
Specialist at the UIHC & a Assistant Professor
(Clinical) in the Clinical and Administrative Division
at the College of Pharmacy. She coordinates Medication
Use Evaluation activities at UIHC and is a preceptor
for pharmacy residents and students on the MUE rotation.
Sarah is also an instructor for Drug Literature
Evaluation 46:115. She is married and has three
children. She enjoys running and likes to
travel. |

Tony
Kramer is a Chemist 1 for Pharmaceutical Services. His responsibilities
include conducting method validation experiments
and method development experiments on complex pharmaceutical
products using HPLC and UV instrumentation. Tony
has a Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University
of Northern Iowa as well as a Minor in Chemistry.
Tony is currently the head diving coach at
both City and West High Schools here in Iowa City.
He is married and has a 4 month old daughter named
Adelyn. |

Julie Lang, MS, MBA, recently joined the College of Pharmacy after receiving her M.B.A. at the University of Iowa. She is the new Research Assistant II Social Scientist for Dr. Karen Farris and is the Project Manager for the Medication Dispenser (MD.2) study. Prior to joining the College of Pharmacy, she has worked at the University of Iowa in the capacity of Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Laboratory Manager in molecular biology research, a Program Associate in clinical trial data management, and as a Business Development Manager during a hiatus in private industry. She received a M.S. in Biology from Western Illinois University. In her spare time, Julie enjoys culinary arts, volunteering and entertaining her three dogs and one cat.

Susan
H. Staggs, PharmD, started with the University
of Iowa on November 27th. She graduated from the
University of Tennessee with her Doctor of Pharmacy
degree in June 2003. After graduation, Dr.
Staggs completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency
at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee,
and then also completed additional training in
a Pediatric Specialty Residency at the Medical
University of South Carolina in Charleston, South
Carolina. Here at Iowa, while serving as
Assistant Professor (Clinical), Dr. Staggs will
assist in the development and delivery of preceptor
educational programs, promote pharmacists in developing
new teaching sites and contribute to quality assurance
programs within our professional experience program.
In her spare time, she enjoys culinary arts, going
to the theater, and watching her University of
Tennessee Volunteers play football. |
