The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy recently entered into an agreement with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) to produce “The University of Iowa Teaching Cases.” The project will provide 100 cases for APhA’s PharmacyLibrary online resource.

Case-based learning is a valuable educational tool that brings simulation of real-world events into the classroom experience. These standardized therapeutic-oriented case studies are exclusive to PharmacyLibrary, and assist faculty members in teaching Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. The cases are categorized as either introductory or complex and cover many health conditions. As of August 1, 51 cases are currently live in PharmacyLibrary and an additional 49 cases will be added soon. 

Accompanying the cases on PharmacyLibrary are an instructor’s guide - which will include tips on incorporating case-based learning into teaching - and a guide for users on working through a case.

PharmacyLibrary provides an array of resources on one comprehensive search platform, wherein users can quickly and easily retrieve relevant information.
