Clinical Faculty Pharmacy Specialist - Internal Medicine

The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy are currently seeking applications for one full-time, shared clinical pharmacy specialist/assistant professor (clinical) position in the area of inpatient internal medicine. Responsibilities include: provision of clinical pharmacy services for the VA Medical Center’s inpatient internal medicine areas; assisting with formulary management, pharmacoeconomic, and quality assurance projects; investigating and reporting adverse drug reactions; and serving on VA and College of Pharmacy committees. In addition, the Specialist will present didactic lectures at the College of Pharmacy, with the eventual goal of coordinating a course; offer staff development training for VA pharmacy employees; as well as provide clinical teaching and precept University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students and VA pharmacy residents.  Scholarly and research activities are required.    

Requirements:  (1) Pharm.D. or clinically oriented Master’s degree program recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE); plus, an ASHP-accredited residency (completed by July 2008) or comparable clinical practice experience is required. (Two-year ASHP residency training preferred). Board certification in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) is desirable; (2) U.S. citizenship; (3) full, active, unrestricted license in any State or the District of Columbia, and must be eligible for pharmacist licensure in Iowa; (4) pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Assistant Professor (Clinical) or

The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy

The Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Division invites applications for a 12-month (fiscal) clinical track faculty position in the area of Pediatrics.  Applicants must have a Pharm.D. and have completed a specialty residency and/or a fellowship or equivalent experience.  Eligibility for licensure in Iowa is also required. 

Responsibilities for this full time faculty position include clinical and didactic teaching of student pharmacists and pediatric clinical pharmacotherapy services at St Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  St Luke’s is multi-specialty, 560 bed acute care facility, including a 17 bed Pediatric Unit that can be adapted as needed for intensive care and a 22 bed Level II Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Cedar Rapids is about 20 miles from the University of Iowa campus.  Clinical Track faculty participate in teaching, patient care, service and professional engagement.  The Division has over 40 faculty and supports the clinical teaching mission of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.  Additional information about the College of Pharmacy is available at http://pharmacy.uiowa.edu/

Responsibilities include providing pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients, precepting student pharmacists on rotation, coordinating introductory practice experiences at the practice setting, providing didactic lectures in Therapeutics and other PharmD courses, and participating in Professional Practice Laboratory courses. Academic service and professional activities are expected, as well as participation in interdisciplinary committees and performance improvement initiatives. Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.

Research Assistant I

The University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy seeks a full-time research assistant I for a termed (3-year) position in the Clinical & Administrative Pharmacy Division.  The candidate will assist in the performance of social science related research by gathering information and assisting in the collection and abstraction of medical record data; administer questionnaires; and collect, tabulate and assist in the processing of data obtained.

Requires the academic knowledge of a discipline plus the ability to translate, adapt, and apply the knowledge that is generally associated with a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience such that one can perform beginning level research in a social science field or discipline.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.  Must have valid Iowa Driver’s License and meet the Fleet Safety Requirements on behalf of the University.  Previous experience with medical record data is desired.  Previous data entry experience is also desired.
