46:007 career pathways in pharmacy
Semester Hours: 1
Description: This course is designed to facilitate pharmacy students' career preparation through writing, speaking, reading, and listening. Topics include 1) resume, curricula vitae, and cover letter writing, 2) interviewing techniques, 3) guest speakers from pharmacy associations and major chains, 4) introduction to building an electronic portfolio, and 5) web-based career sources. Each student's grade depends on 1) attendance, submission of 2) a cover letter and resume/CV to be reviewed by peers through the writing workshop process, and 3) a video capture of a mock interview using Perfect Interview (an online interview practice tool).

46:121 Substance Abuse
Semester Hours: 2 or 3
Description: Substance abuse emphasizes the most important themes and concepts in the field of substance abuse and treatment. Drugs of abuse reviewed include stimulants, depressants alcohol, opiates, hallucinogenics, and steroids. Drug abuse prevention and treatment including dual diagnosis from the cradle to the grave are considered.

46:126 INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES: XICOTEPEC

Description: This course is designed to introduce multidisciplinary students to provision of service to a community in a less developed country. In collaboration with an international service provider students develop discipline specific projects aimed at improving community life in Xicotepec, Mexico. The course prepares the student culturally and professionally for team work in an international environment. This is a service-learning course.

46:377 Health Disparities & Cultural Competence 
Semester Hours: 2-4
Description: This course introduces students to the characteristics, causes, and effects of health disparities in the U.S. health care system and provides students with a foundation to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to become culturally competent health providers.  Representative topics include an overview of health disparities among specific population groups; definitions and models of cultural competence; evidence for cultural competence as a remedy for health disparities; guidelines for taking a culturally appropriate history; working with language interpreters; legal and professional imperatives for cultural competence; characteristics of culturally effective practitioners and workplaces; personal growth in cultural competence.  Students will participate in discussion of assigned readings and other classroom and experiential activities designed to enable students to meet course goals.
