ORGANIZATIONS

The American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists(APhA-ASP)is the world's largest pharmacy student organization, with over 28,000 members nationwide. The University of Iowa chapter consists of over 300 students from all class years. APhA-ASP is part of the larger APhA, which includes pharmacist members from ALL specialties within the profession (community, hospital, research, nuclear, etc.). As a result, membership in APhA-ASP allows one to network with fellow students from every class year and pharmacists in many practice areas, nationwide.   For more information click here.

Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc. is the world's oldest and largest pharmacy fraternity. There are currently 67 collegiate and 43 graduate chapters in the United States and Canada. The Delta Zeta chapter was founded at the University of Iowa in 1968 and currently has 62 active members. For more information click here.

top of pagePhi Lambda Sigma, also known as the National Pharmacy Leadership Society, is to promote the development of leadership qualities, especially among pharmacy students. By peer recognition, the Society encourages participation in all pharmacy activities. Since membership crosses fraternal and organizational lines, the Society does not compete with other pharmacy organizations. For more information click here.

top of pagePharmacy Student Ambassador Network - Members of the Pharmacy Student Ambassador Network (PSAN) serve as representatives of the College of Pharmacy to prospective students and the other health science colleges within the university. The group is made up of 26 volunteers from all cohorts and offers many opportunities for participation. One of PSAN’s major responsibilities is to provide tours of the college to interested high schools and transfer students. This provides applicants with an opportunity to interact with current pharmacy students and to gain insight into a typical student’s life. Prospective students also receive more information about the curriculum, facilities, and the university campus. PSAN was highly involved with the new student interview process this spring, giving tours to pharmacy applicants and serving as interviewers. For more information click here.

Rho Chi Society encourages and recognizes excellence in intellectual achievement and advocates critical inquiry in all aspects of pharmacy. Further, the Society encourages high standards of conduct and character and fosters fellowship among its members. The Society envisions that it will seek universal recognition of its members as lifelong intellectual leaders in pharmacy, and as a community of scholars, will instill the desire to pursue intellectual excellence and critical inquiry to advance the profession. top of pageStudent Council for the College of Pharmacy oversees activities of all the student organizations for the entire college. They oversee the coordination and scheduling all of the activities, selling of items etc., for the various organizations. They disperse university funds to the various organizations based on submitted requests and they oversee the budgets. They function as a liaison between the students, UISG, other student organizations, and administration. They set policies for students and the organizations, assist administration with policy decisions, and help resolve issues that arise within the student body. There are 4 elected positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. New officers are elected in December. This allows for one semester of transition between the outgoing officers and new officers. Meetings are held once a month to discuss issues. For more information click here.

University of Iowa Pharmacy Recovery Network - UI-PRN is the College of Pharmacy’s branch of the Iowa Pharmacy Recovery Network (IPRN). IPRN is designed to help pharmacy professionals who have some form of impairment to identify their problem, enter a treatment program, and provide monitoring during the recovery process. Members of IPRN are volunteers who wish to help others through their entire recovery process. During the school year, UI-PRN meets on a monthly basis. UI-PRN organizes activities such as alcohol-free stress relieving events after exams and arranges for guest speakers to tell their recovery stories. UI-PRN is also available for students to come to with concerns about themselves or others. For more information click here.

Student National Pharmaceutical Association exists to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement programs geared toward improving the health, social, and educational environment of the community. Likewise, SNPhA provides opportunities for professional development for its members. For more information click here.

UI-SHP is the University of Iowa’s chapter of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. It is an organization for pharmacy students that are interested in learning more about opportunities in the in the pharmacy profession, such as residency programs and fellowships.
