 What is health systems pharmacy?
- UI-SHP is the University of Iowa’s chapter of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. It is an organization for pharmacy students that are interested in learning more about opportunities in the in the pharmacy profession, such as residency programs and fellowships. Students will also enhance their leadership ability, provide service to the community, and improve their networking skills.

- Local student chapter of the Iowa Society of Hospital Pharmacists, a state chapter of the American Society for Health-Systems Pharmacy
What does UI-SHP do?
- UI-SHP is involved in many activities thought the year. In the fall, we provide an evening of improving CV and resume writing to all pharmacy students. We also have a residency night to learn about the programs available in Iowa. Residency coordinators and area residents provide information about their programs. We attend the annual ASHP National midyear meeting, which has been held in Atlanta, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. In the spring, we hold rotation information night, where P4c’s share their experiences with the P3 students. In addition, we participate in poison prevention week by performing Katy’s Kids at a local elementary to teach children about medication safety. As a fundraiser, we work in the pharmacy’s learning resource center one night a week.

Membership:

The UI-SHP membership drive is in the fall of each year. Membership dues are $55, which includes membership to the national organization American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA). In addition, each member receives a subscription to the American Journal of Health Systems Pharmacy (AJHP).
