COHEN SCHOLARSHIP
On the eve of his retirement, Dean Jordan L. Cohen and his wife, Jana, have made a generous gift commitment toward establishing a scholarship fund that will benefit future generations of students in the UI College of Pharmacy.

The Jordan and Jana Cohen Doctor of Pharmacy Scholarship Fund will be annually awarded to deserving students in the College’s Doctor of Pharmacy program—and will help those recipients achieve their educational goals and go on to rewarding careers in pharmacy.

“Jana and I hope that this fund will help sustain the Iowa legacy of excellence in pharmacy education and inspire others to find ways of supporting this outstanding program,” says Dean Cohen. “We believe that our gift for students today is a gift for health care tomorrow: UI pharmacy graduates can make significant contributions to our profession.”

During his tenure as dean of the UI College of Pharmacy, Jordan has overseen the full implementation of the Doctor of Pharmacy program and the opening of the Dale E. Wurster Center for Pharmaceutical Technology. Under his leadership, the College has developed interdisciplinary educational and research programs across the health sciences, forged strong links with the state’s pharmacy profession, and emerged as a leader in economic development through the College’s unique service divisions.

Last year, scholarship funds in the College of Pharmacy provided $77,410 in student aid to 52 students. “Student scholarship funds are vitally important because they help the College of Pharmacy provide much-needed financial support to deserving students—and recruit exceptional new students,” says Kate Carinder, University of Iowa Foundation associate director of development, major gifts, College of Pharmacy, Carver College of Medicine, and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. “The Cohens really are leading by example.”
