What are the prerequisites for Pharmacy?
Rhetoric: 8 sh   General Chemistry with lab: 8 sh
Calculus: 3-4 sh   General Biology with lab: 8 sh
Organic Chemistry: 6 sh   Human Anatomy: 3 sh
Human Physiology: 3-4 sh   Microbiology with lab: 4 sh
Statistics: 3 sh
  Microeconomics: 3-4 sh
Physics: 1 year high school or 1 semester college with a lab
General Education Electives: 12 sh (20 sh required to graduate) completed prior to entry into the College of Pharmacy.

What GPA do you require for admission? You must have at least a 2.5 PharmCAS cumulative GPA to apply. Most years, accepted students have had a GPA at 3.0 or above, especially in math and science coursework. The average GPA accepted in 2008 was 3.42 and the average PCAT composite score was 79.

What are the application procedures? You must apply using PharmCAS, and submit official transcripts, two letters of reference, and PCAT scores directly to PharmCAS. The PCAT is required to be taken before the application deadline.  Interviews will be held for a select number of students.  For Fall 2009 a supplemental application and $100 supplemental application fee is required for all applicants.  Click here for supplemental application and instructions.

When is the application deadline? Our deadline is December 1, 2008 for Fall 2009 admission.

How many students do you ENROLL into the program every year? We enroll approximately 110 students each Fall.

How many students apply? We received approximately 800 complete applications for Fall 2008.

DO YOU ACCEPT TRANSFER STUDENTS ? Yes, for 2008 41% of entering students were transfer students.

DO YOU ACCEPT OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS ? Yes, for 2008 39% of entering students were not Iowa residents.

DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ? Yes. Please see http://www.pharmacy.uiowa.edu/admissions/international.htm for more information about requirements for international applicants.

What is your placement rate? Our placement rate continues to be 100%.

What is your retention rate? Our retention rate is very high as we select students that are well-prepared for the rigorous curriculum.

What percent of students pass their licensure exams? For the past 10 years, our students have had a 96-100% passing rate on all licensure exams.

What is the tuition for Pharmacy? 2008-2009 tuition for the College of Pharmacy is $9,025 per semester for Iowa residents. Non-resident tuition is $16,343 per semester.
