INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

DOCTOR OF PHARMACY PROGRAM

FALL 2009

  1. The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy will consider applications from U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadian and other foreign citizens.
  1. The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy does not offer a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) completion program for graduates of foreign pharmacy schools.  All candidates must apply to enter the first-year of the four-year Pharm.D. program regardless of previous education.  Students in the program must complete all graduation requirements to be eligible to receive the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  1. All Pharmacy prerequisite courses should be completed at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or an English-speaking college or university in Canada that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC, www.aucc.ca) regardless of previous coursework or degrees conferred at a foreign institution.  Official transcripts from Canadian institutions should be sent directly to the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.  We will not accept foreign transcript evaluation reports.  Courses taken outside the U.S. or Canada may be accepted under certain circumstances.  Candidates who wish to complete pre-pharmacy coursework at the University of Iowa should apply to the  College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as an international undergraduate student (www.uiowa.edu/admissions).
  1. All candidates must follow the application procedures found on the College of Pharmacy website (www.pharmacy.uiowa.edu/admissions/appprocedure.htm).  All candidates must apply through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS, www.pharmcas.org) .  All candidates must also submit a supplemental application and supplemental application fee of $100.00 (U.S.) directly to the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.  Click here for the supplemental application and instructions.
  1. All candidates must take the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT, www.pcatweb.info) prior to the application deadline.  PCAT scores should be sent directly to PharmCAS (code 104).  PCAT scores may be a maximum of two years old.
  1. International candidates whose first language is not English must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl).  TOEFL results should be sent to the University of Iowa (6681).  Minimum TOEFL score requirements may be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/international/english-grad.htm.  An ACT English score of 21 or a combined SAT Critical Reading score of 540 may be used to satisfy the TOEFL requirement.  TOEFL scores may a maximum of two years old.
  1. International candidates who are recommended for admission to the College of Pharmacy by the College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee must meet all University of Iowa admissions requirements for International applicants to be admitted to the University.
  1. Once recommended for admission, International candidates requesting F1 or J1 visa status are required to complete a Financial Statement showing evidence of adequate support to cover the costs of one full year of study at the University of Iowa (www.uiowa.edu/admissions/applications/intl/Intl_Finan_Statemnt.pdf).
